In 1989 Chazz Palminteri wrote a one man show about a killing he saw in the Bronx when he was nine years old. He performed it at a little theatre in Hollywood California. It became a hit and the most sought after property since Rocky. With only two hundred left in the bank and million dollar offers, he refused to sell his play unless he played Sonny and wrote the screenplay. He held out and got his wish with Robert De Niro. This is the original one man show he wrote and performed in 1989 that made him a star.

Excellent portrayal of life on Arthur Avenue in the 1950's. A pizza slice of a beautiful time and one that's irreplaceable.
This review is not actually for the play, which is brilliant -- it's for the edition. The text is so full of typos and really intrusive editing errors that it's almost unreasonable. It is a real shame when a terrific work of art gets such a crappy technical treatment. Save your money.

I saw this show, when it was up at Theatre West in Los Angeles. I never forgot about it and think of it often. Reading this took me right back. Happy to have found it.
The story is fantastic and timeless. I want to give Chaz's story 5 stars but it seems like the editor dropped the ball. So many spelling and grammatical errors.
I read this after my sister raved about it when she saw the production in NYC. I loved it! Outstanding!
